After several years and several hundred dollars of fees paid, I've decided to revert back to free, which is here, where I started. It's rather interesting to again see all the old posts, and to look at who I've been.

I don't think I'm nearly as nostalgic about my own past as I have been. I'm pretty excited about the future, about my life with Brooke, in a house, with Dexter, brewing beer, working as a programmer, and all in all, life's much better now. I used to get all kinds of worked up over stuff, and depressed, and now I guess I've just come to grips with how short life is, and find it too tiring to get worked up anymore about little stuff.

What's big on my mind right now is just how a Christian can and should interact with government. Traditional teaching from the church I'm familiar with is to obey the government in everything except the direct prohibition of what the Bible instructs, or the direct command to commit what the Bible prohibits. As a Libertarian, this doesn't quite feel right, but my commitment is first to obey God. I've come across a very interesting author, John M. Cobin, who apparently also teaches occasionally for LeTourneau, my alma mater. His perspective, and one he backs up with considerable thought, is that we should only obey government when it is in line with the Bible, and that civil disobedience is not only a viable option, but could in fact be our responsibility. I'm ordering his book, and searching his website, though I'm not yet sure how I feel. I expect I'll be writing on this more soon.
